About Byte
Tools that earn their place on your desk.
AI tools, hardware and gadgets — what they actually do, what they cost to run, and who they are for. Practical and evergreen, no launch-day hype.
What this site is
Byte is the Technology site of Omni Mundi Compendium,
published at tech.omc.center. It shares the network's technical
platform and editorial standards, but its topics, bylines and publishing schedule are its
own.
It is written for readers without a professional background. That shapes every piece: we would rather leave a question unanswered than publish something we cannot explain properly, and wherever a judgment is possible we give the criteria, not just the conclusion.
Practical advice here is anchored to the United States. Where an answer depends on which state you are in, the article says so instead of quietly picking one.
Editorial standards
The network-wide standard lives on one page — what is checked before publication, which sources are accepted, and how corrections are handled: editorial policy.
- State the preconditions first. The same question has different answers under different circumstances, so the circumstances matter more than a confident conclusion.
- Separate fact from opinion. Statutes, policy terms and published figures are facts and must be traceable; rules of thumb are labeled as judgments.
- Show the date. Rules in technology change. Articles carry published and updated dates, and older pieces are revised first when the rules move.
- Do not replace professional advice. For an individual case we offer a framework for understanding the problem; the decision belongs with a licensed professional.
How articles get made
Articles on this network are written by AI and then put through a second, separate AI review pass against a written standard — sources, jurisdiction, figures and dates are checked, and the corrections are applied, before anything is published. No human editor signs off on individual articles. If you find an error, report it and we will correct it.
We do not think this needs hiding. AI writes the draft and AI audits it. A second, independent pass checks every statute, form number, dollar figure and date against a source we can name; confirms the article says which jurisdiction it applies to and where the answer varies by state; and confirms the right disclaimer is attached. Those corrections are applied before publication.
The checklist that pass works from is published in the repository as REVIEW.md.
What it does not produce is a licensed professional's sign-off, and we do not claim one.
Updates and corrections
This site currently holds 4 articles across 2 topics. Articles may be revised after publication, and revisions update the date shown at the top. When a piece's underlying premise no longer holds, we rewrite it rather than patching it.
If you spot a factual error, an out-of-date rule or an imprecise claim, report it to the editorial desk — once verified we will correct it and note the change at the foot of the article.
